Founder Story

We moved into our home in October 2024. I was pregnant, had an almost one-year-old, and was running a business. From day one, the house demanded attention: movers, plumbers, painters, cleaners, furniture assembly, junk removal. Then a bathroom flooded. Then flooring issues surfaced. I felt constantly overwhelmed, worried I was making the wrong decisions, and frustrated that managing the house was stealing time from my work and my family—time I didn’t have to spare.

I remember spending nearly 45 minutes repeating the same plumbing issue to three different contractors, only for two to no-show. When we suspected a water heater leak, the first quote we received from a large, well-known company was nearly triple the cost of the two that followed. A few displaced roof shingles later, we were right back in the same cycle: searching, coordinating, hoping someone would show up.

One thing genuinely helped. The previous homeowner left a box with paint colors, warranties, appliance details, notes about the garden, their lawn care provider, a foundation company they’d used, details on a recent kitchen upgrade—including materials and finishes—and when the roof was last updated. That access mattered. It saved time and reduced uncertainty. But it was static, unstructured, and disconnected from the work that followed.

That’s when it became clear: the real problem wasn’t broken homes, it was broken coordination. Homeowners have plenty of contractor options, but no trusted system to organize home knowledge and use it to guide better decisions.

Portyr is a digital home management platform that organizes critical home information and coordinates repairs, maintenance, and contractors, so homeowners stop carrying the mental load. I started Portyr because homeowners don’t just need people to do the work, they need help managing the process. Reducing the mental load of coordination is the value we bring, starting in Birmingham and scaling nationwide.
